Conceptually Speaking is designed as an outlet for conceptual thought, presenting some of the important – and sometimes less than important – issues of the day in centrist terms.
Conceptually speaking, we recognize that rarely are things always or never. It is unlikely that a position is supported by everyone or nobody. And there are very few things that incorporate everything or do nothing. For the purpose of Conceptually Speaking, use of definitive terms will be the exception rather than the rule. Notice we were unable to state that definitive terms would not be used in our articles.
Whether the topic is politics; republican or democrat, sports; American League or National League and a good steak; Morton’s or the Palms there are fair opinions on both sides. Conceptually speaking, our writers are neither republican nor democrat; neither Angels nor Dodgers fans. Given the opportunity, we are likely to enjoy steaks prepared at Morton’s as well as the Palms.
Our interest is less in the result and more in the process used to achieve a result.
We have assembled a staff of writers from varying backgrounds, ideology and weight classes. There should be a little bit of something that our readers can identify with as well as some things that our readers can relate to. We are attempting to shift the debate to…actual debate. We will strive for civility.
Our forum is not one that will produce “Die Quickly” sound bites when discussing health care or question one’s well documented origins when supporting or opposing President Obama’s agenda. We are not interested in “Yankees Suck” sentiments because they don’t or “Brett Favre is a traitor” because he’s not. Conceptually speaking, we are taking the counter Glenn Beck, the counter Ed Henry, counter Weekly Standard and counter Huffington Post approach.
We look forward to your participation in the debate and hope that you will help us achieve a more civil discourse that will hopefully serve as a model for future public debate.
